Coast to Coast with Natalie Decleve

Coast to Coast with Natalie Decleve

By Britanny Murray

Meet Natalie Decleve, a holistic, bicoastal stylist with a lust for traveling and a desire for adventure.  When Natalie isn't traveling across the country, styling men and women all around the globe, she’s a featured content creator for a number of different fashion and lifestyle media outlets. Natalie has contributed helpful content to StyleCaster, Harper’s Bazaar, W Magazine and more.

We were fortunate enough to catch up with the holistic stylist about what she loves most about her career, upcoming fall fashion trends she’s most excited about, the importance of everyday jewelry and more.

How did you begin your career in styling and fashion and where do you gain inspiration?

I worked in PR and Sales at DVF, Kiki de Montparnasse and Albemarle of London before launching my personal styling business, Natty Style back in 2009! The streets of NYC are my biggest inspiration...everyone is so expressive and creative here.

How would you describe your aesthetic and style?

Feminine and clean. I tend towards solid colors, poplin fabrics and statement accessories.

What advice would you give someone looking to build their own brand?

Imagine the impression others have of you, and lean into that. If you’re trying to be edgy but people often describe you as approachable - find your power by allowing your authenticity to shine. Whatever “it” is, is probably why people gravitate towards you–so don’t worry about trying to match whatever is popular at the moment.

Can you walk us through a day in your life of being a personal stylist?

Every day is different! But if I’m meeting a first time client, we will usually start by editing their existing closet down to the only the best. From there, we’ll make a list of needs and another appointment to shop. On a shopping day, I will pre-shop in advance so that the client arrives to a personally selected wardrobe, ready to try! From there, I’ll often style outfits for my clients into a lookbook that they can always access from their phone. Kind of like having a stylist in your pocket :-)

What do you love most about your career?

The personal relationships that I build with my clients, and the ability to build self-confidence in people through finding their personal style.

What do you think the key to successful branding is?

Creating something recognizable, easily understood, and useful.

What upcoming trends are you most looking forward to this fall season?

I’m forever obsessed with combat boots, especially mixed with feminine florals or poplin dresses. Slim fit turtlenecks are one of the most flattering fall staples, that pair so well with this season’s wider leg culottes and mom jeans.

How does jewelry play a role in your everyday life?

My ears, neck, and fingers are never bare! Having a tiny bit of sparkle that is always present, even when I’m in my sweatpants, makes me feel polished. Just a little everyday luxury … (Tini Lux if you will! )
